The Student Support Services Program at LCC is designed to enhance academic skills, increase retention and graduation rates, facilitate entrance into four-year colleges, and foster a climate which supports the success of low-income/first generation college students and students with disabilities. Student Support Services serves a minimum of 300 first generation/low income college students each academic year. The academic year's Supportive/Developmental Instructional Course component consists of additional instruction, remedial lab, and support service-related activities. For students with basic skill deficiencies, Student Support Services provides a structured supportive/developmental instruction basic skills program in reading, English, and mathematics to assist in remediating educational deficiencies. Additional support services (e.g., peer tutoring, computer-assisted tutoring, assistance in applying for financial aid, assistance in transferring to a four-year post-secondary institution, personal, career, and academic counseling/guidance) are available to assist students. LCC provides extensive facilities and institutional resources to meet project performance and process objectives with measurable standards. Students are eligible to participate in the Student Support Services Program if they are enrolled, or have been accepted for enrollment in the next term, and have a need for academic support in order to pursue a program of post-secondary education. All student participants must also be low-income individuals, first-generation college students, or individuals with a disability. For more information about the program, visit the Student Support Services Office located in the Lerma-Peņa Building, Room 123.
