A prelude to the LCC-Cisco match on the Crispin (Doc) Sanchez Baseball Field on Friday, Feb 15 will single out several area businesses for their support of the Palomino athletic program, and feature a special appearance by a well known celebrity that’s sure to cause a buzz.
Leaders from IBC and 40 local businesses will be among the honorees at the donor recognition ceremony, which starts at 11:30 a.m.
IBC has donated $25,000 for the installation of a new state-of-the-art scoreboard on the LCC baseball field, located on the north side of the Fort McIntosh Campus.
LCC President Dr. Juan L. Maldonado said that corporate gifts such as the one given by IBC are of great value to the college.
“IBC is well known for its longtime association with LCC as partners in higher education,” Maldonado said. “IBC not only supports our students and instructional programs, but it also supports many other aspects of the college that help us provide a well-rounded community college experience for the benefit of our student body and the community.”
Dennis E. Nixon, president and CEO of IBC-Laredo and chairman and CEO of its parent International Bancshares Corporation, said, “IBC is proud to support the students of our own Laredo Community College and the advancement of our youth through higher education and extracurricular activities that promote a healthy lifestyle. We hope the Palominos have a successful season.”
The IBC FreeBee will help open the doubleheader between the LCC Palominos and the Cisco Junior College Wranglers by throwing the first pitch.
During the ceremony, LCC also will recognize the 2008 Billboard Fence Sponsors. Forty area businesses sponsored a space to be showcased on the LCC baseball fence.
During the introduction of the baseball players, members of the Palomino baseball team will present each sponsor with a certificate of appreciation for their support.
“The backing LCC gets from our generous business sponsors is a major boost to our nationally recognized student athletic programs. We couldn’t be successful without their valuable support,” LCC athletics director Troy Van Brunt said.
The billboard sponsors include McBar International, TANJORE Corporation Limited, Barnes and Noble Bookstore, Cougar Bus Lines LTD, Falcon International Bank, Sunbelt Air Conditioning, Leyendecker Construction, Cindy’s Catering, Kahn Insurance, Kike’s Two/Caesar’s Reception Hall, Arguindegui Oil, Laredo Federal Credit Union, United Way of Laredo, Laredo Medical Center, FQR Architects, Coyote Creek, Laredo National Bank, United Construction Company, Black Diamond Energy and the Laredo Broncos.
