Two Palominos earn Region XIV district honors
The honors are two-fold at Laredo Community College in the third week of the Region XIV District M Conference’s recognition of top achieving student-athletes.
And joining Bermea is teammate Anastasia Fogatu (No. 5) of Hawaii, who has been honored as player of the week for court action ending Monday, Sept. 22. Bermea helped LCC post 3 triumphs last week and raise its spotless record of wins to 14-0. Bermea accrued 122 assists (13.56 apg), three services aces (.334 apg), 20 digs (2.22 dpg) and six blocks (.667 bpg) in nine games. “I’m proud of Ariana for receiving this honor for the second time this season. It shows just what great success she has experienced, especially in her new role as the team’s setter,” head coach Binny Canales said. Fogatu, a 6-foot middle blocker, also is credited for helping LCC remain undefeated last week after the Palominos defeated Coastal Bend College in two separate matches and Our Lady of the Lake University in a non-conference match. Fogatu posted 38 kills (4.22 kpg), seven errors out of 83 attempts (.373 kill %), 26 digs (2.89 dpg) and 14 blocks (1.56 bpg) in nine games. “Anastasia is very well deserving of the honor. Now in her sophomore year, she has raised her game to a new level and has improved by leaps and bounds,” Canales said. Last year, Fogatu become LCC’s first player to be recruited from Hawaii. “I’m glad Anastasia chose to attend LCC over a California college. She has been a great find for the Palominos,” Canales said. The other Region XIV-District M honoree is Kirsten Brotze, libero of the week, who plays for Wharton County Junior College. |
