Brazil’s Souza earns Region XIV district honors for LCC
The
latest honor roll of Region XIV-District M's volleyball standouts recognizes
Laredo Community College Palomino Mariana Souza as the Player of the Week for
matches ending Saturday, Oct. 4.
Souza, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Sao Paulo, Brazil, was recognized for posting 40 kills and seven errors on 80 attacks with a kill percentage of 0.413, averaging 3.33/kpg.
She also is credited for adding 26 digs (2.17/pg), four blocks and five service aces in 12 games.
LCC's recent matches against San Jacinto College, Lee College and Midland College were Souza’s first full-time action since returning to the court from a major injury. Her contributions have helped the team achieve an overall record of 17-1 and 3-1 in conference. LCC is currently in second place behind conference leader San Jacinto.
Prior to the start of the 2008 season, Souza was honored as a Pre-Season All American by the National Junior College Athletic Association for Division 1 volleyball.
Other Region XIV-District M honorees are Brooke Spossey, libero of the week; and Abbey Parker, setter of the week; both play for San Jacinto.
