LCC men, women tennis host St. Mary’s Tuesday

The Palomino men’s and women’s tennis teams of Laredo Community College are ready to get back on the courts after a weeklong rest due to inclement weather and spring break.

They host the St. Mary’s University Rattlers of San Antonio, an NCAA Division 2 team, Tuesday, March 24 at 1 p.m. at the H.E. Butt Tennis Courts, located on the north side of LCC’s Fort McIntosh Campus.  Admission is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the community.

“The Palomino men’s and women’s teams have not had the chance to play many games this season,” head coach Jaime Donjuan said.  “The men have played five matches, while the women have played only four.  So both teams are anxious to play.”

Donjuan said that the teams had a chance to rest last week before returning to the courts for practice this past weekend.

“Both teams should be back in form for their match against St. Mary’s,” Donjuan said.  “The men should hopefully pick up their sixth consecutive win and the women their first win.”

The action continues for the Lady Palominos at the annual Lee College tennis tournament March 27-29 in Baytown.

“The men’s team will be off, so that will give me a chance to focus more on the women’s team in preparation for the Lee tournament,” Donjuan noted.

The Palomino men’s team has picked up an additional match for the season.  They will be in Edinburg on Tuesday, March 31 at 2 p.m. to confront NCAA Division 1, University of Texas-Pan American.
