LCC men’s tennis receives worldwide acclaim

What does the three-time national champion LCC men’s tennis team have in common with tennis legend Pete Sampras?

Both are featured in the August 2007 issue of TennisLife magazine.

Jaime Donjuan, head coach of the Laredo Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams, is a subscriber of the magazine, which is published bi-monthly and distributed worldwide.

Unaware that the Palomino men were to be featured in the magazine, Donjuan learned about LCC’s inclusion in the magazine after being informed by a friend a few days ago.   The commemorative issue also features an exclusive interview with Sampras.

“I did not know that LCC was going to be highlighted in the magazine because I have not received my copy of the magazine yet,” Donjuan said.

The section on LCC also features the women’s tennis team of Baytown’s Lee College, recognizing the two Texas teams for holding the junior college national championship titles.  The special also features the achievements of other Texas university tennis teams.

Donjuan is pleased with the international recognition that LCC and the other Texas tennis team have garnered.

“The recognition is awesome for LCC because it’s creating a buzz at the international level about the top quality and high level of achievement that exists at the junior/community college level and the opportunities available for junior college players to transfer to the major university level tennis programs,” Donjuan said.

“It also helps boost the college’s recruiting efforts,” Donjuan added.
